SUMMARY

08/17/99 - The Louisiana Legislature passed HB1919 which takes effect January 1, 2000. You can check further, however in essense they cut the fees and eliminated many loopholes. The new law states a company can only collect 16.75% of the face of a check and the fees are capped at $45.

05/27/99 - The State of Louisiana has killed SB 132. This is the bill that would of put payday loan companies out of business. No bill is expected to pass in LA.

05/12/99 - Louisiana Senate has passed SB132 by Senator Campbell. This proposed bill would cap Payday Loan APR @ 72%!  House bill 1919 has passed the house and is in Senate committees. This bill would cap at 160%.

04/28/99 - Louisiana is actively pursuing legislation...HB 1919 has passed a house Committee. A senate version of the bill is in the works.
